Last Man Standing -almost.

These are photos, postcards, maybe some brochures and comments about buildings & structures (mostly in Victoria) that are tottering on their last legs -some are now gone, some are long gone, and some are limping their way through the 21st century.
                    A collection of what was:

,

Taken November 2010. This building is at the northwest corner of Haultain and Belmont Ave.
Across the street. Maybe the next to go?

The VIEW ROYAL MOTEL

Been there a long time, back when the Colwood, View Royal area was a destination for up-island travellers and vacationers. Lots of hotels, motels and auto courts lined the stretch of the 1A highway,  affectionately now known as the Colwood Crawl, due to traffic snarls.

Kind of a low-rent, rooms-by-the-month kind of affair these days -mostly vacant, taking up prime real estate. I like it, though.
A couple of dashboard shots of the rear -it's glory days long faded.

the 'hood nov.23 '10

A loverly day -went for a walk in the hood, around/through Vantreight's fields. Lots of wilted cabbages, so COLD it is here -by west coast standards anyway.

The Great "Stuff Reduction Project" continues on unabated -scanning photos, digitizing the archives, if you will. Started, and I mean started on the HHUUGGEE pile of photos from the pre-digital age -the last twenty-plus years worth.....in duplicate. Seems, in the day, that for a nickel? more you could get another set of prints. Anyway, I can only take (afford) a wee bit of time each day to this task. Oh, unordered photos, I should add.
Anyway, I did manage to treat myself to the new Springsteen collection -all the early albums, none of which I own on cd. Bonus, all in mini lp format. Sweet.

Tuesday Nov.9th

Is this to tweet? I guess I'm not in 'til I sign up, which I won't. This seems like a writing exercise more than anything -a good start for me. This could be some fun -a discipline I'd like to learn. Anyway, really howling weather today, the rains haven't come yet, though I prefer a good windstorm to take the rest of the leaves off. Plus, the wind dries out the back lawn, allowing me an opportunity to get a (hopefully) final cut.
Did some work for my sis-in-law yesterday, a bit of hedge pruning -that kind of thing. And a beautiful
day it was, a good day for some outdoor activity, yes sir. And then I saw it, and by it I mean this:

Came in closer for a better look.

Took a peek inside. GEORGEOUS

A fine caboose, too. Ummm-ummm, such fine lines!

The REAL Mr. Prince George (aka Mr. P.G.)

Well, there's this welcoming fella in Prince George BC, a bit squinty with the sun in his eyes, updated as Mr. Safety P.G. with the must-have accessory of the season, a hard hat -probably keeps the sun outta his eyes too! But what of this other fellow striking such a strident pose? He appears to be made of stronger stuff.

The DINERS' RENDEZVOUS

Nice to see this Nanaimo landmark back in business. Looking forward to trying their new menu!! Hope you can still "DINE UNDER THE STARS".
